Have you ever reached enigma ?? well.. I am not a new age guy, but I guess I have reached it today with the help of few elements.. you might have gone there.. but you didn’t know.. today is just like any other day, I reach enigma almost everyday.. but my mood has to be a certain way.. and it only happens when I am exercising.. mostly when doing cardio work.. let me ask you this.. have you ever started jogging or hopped on the Stairmaster and in couple of minutes you felt so tiered and your muscles burn and you just kept on looking at the time to finish your routine so you can get off of it ?? OK picture this with me, now.. when you are doing this, and the (in my case the i-pod) mp3 player is blasting in your ears, and all of a sudden a song that you really really love comes up.. you feel a change of mood.. your mind drifts away.. your muscles stop aching as much.. your eyes get of the timer.. and you have this extra energy that you don’t know from where.. but then it doesn’t stop there.. all of a sudden you are so concentrated on the song and its words that your mind reach some other level of concentration.. and you loose all feeling of exhaustion and fatigue.. you keep on going and going… faster and faster.. and just then, you feel that you are in a different world.. you are not in the gym, you are not working out, your mind goes to its happy place where ever it might be.. somewhere very far from where you are at that moment.. you don’t hear the song anymore, you feel the song.. things seem very real in your happy place.. your happy someone might be there with you.. and these minutes that you spent on the treadmill listening to your song, being somewhere else comes to an end, and you drop back in to your body striving to catch your breath again, looking at the timer once more.. wondering what the hell happened, and where did you just go to!!
That is enigma..
I would like to share the song that made me reach enigma tonight.. it’s one of many.. but this one, always gets me there everytime… enjoy..
Take Me Away
by 4 Strings
Shadow and Light
Another day turns into night
Eternal fire
Waited all my life
----------------
Take me away
A million miles away from here
Take me away
Find a place for you and me
You're taking me higher
High as I could be
Take me away
Forever you and me
Take me away
----------------
Tears I cried
Kept them all inside
I needed time
To make up my mind
----------------
Take me away
A million miles away from here
Take me away
Find a place for you and me
You're taking me higher
High as I could be
Take me away
Forever you and me
Take me away
PS. if you want to hear the actual song, e-mail me, and I'll send it to you..

post a commentI know exxxxxxaaactllly what you're saying. Honestly, I cannot run on the treadmill or use the elliptical/stairmaster without music. I need that energy to lift me up.
Music is amazing!
jen, ur right, my mum wakes me up by putting on music in my room cos i feel energised right away whereas im always lethargic without i cant help it music does something for me
Music has its power, but not much of a power compared to your own will.
I used to listen to music while jogging (bel mamsha) but then it doesn't give much of a boost!
Now, I simply think of nothing but reaching a certain place. Forget the pain in my legs, abdomen & heart. Screw them all!
Using that, I can run for 1.2 km without stopping. And I've achieved that in 4 days.
-> Creed - One Last Breath
I don't have to be exercising to have this happen. There are certain songs that will take me back to exactly where I was when I first heard them. I think it is why they call it the universal language.
The song I can't get out of my head right now is...."Good-bye, Ruby Tuesday....who could hang a name on you". I love that! I was 4 yo old then and it was Mom's music, but I loved it just the same.;)
I only listen to techno/trance when I'm on the treadmill. I know it's old but Darude's Sandstorm gets me going. I sprint like hell during the whole song. Although I'm at the gym at a not-so-crowded time (I like my space), sometimes I can see people starring at me because of my huffing, puffing, and noisy stomping in those five something minutes. But I really don't care. I keep on going until it ends. I know my tracks and a more mellow song follows for the slow-down.
I can relate this post emphatically! Music is my nirvana. It’s what gets me though my day, moves me , motivates and inspires me. I wake up in the morning to freestyle, Maria by TKA is a favorite… I love to work out to salsa and merengue Marc Anthony, DLG, Fulanito and The Fania All Stars are best for that.. for studying it’s classical, Bach’s cello sonata hit the spot there it relaxes me… for the ride home on my Harley it’s got to be alternative pumping really loud. System of The Down is perfect as I hit the highway with the wind flying through my hair. I usually drift off to sleep listening to the radio listening to whatever’s new.
okh okh okh this is my song when i can't continue runing.
:) wanasa its not only me ;)
when i used to basically live in the gym, i had to have my music... i know the feeling, you're focused on the time, and when you reach that state, no matter how many times you have listened to it before, you're suddenly focused on the words, it takes you to a different place and time, and instead of struggling with trying to figure out, even the most complicated of lyrics, you feel it completely and know exactly who its directed to, that's a wonderful feeling.. i love music! :)
Janjoon, you know!! If I forget my i-pod, I swear I go all the way back home just to get it, or else I won’t be able to set one foot on the machine..
Hibba, I can’t believe how can people not listen to music.. I mean you hear someone sometimes says that they are not all of that with music.. I really get shocked.. I wonder how come it doesn’t effect them like it effects me !!
MBH, now creed is one of my fav as well.. their music also take me to places I don’t get to on my own.. The song you mentioned is my favorite song for the band btw..
Chris, yes.. music can immediately take us back in time to a certain place in our memory to relive that exact moment.. sometimes it gets over whelming, that a smile or even a tear comes out.. but what I am talking about is a different game.. you see your self going to a place that doesn’t exist in your memory, but place that you create for your self.. maybe you went there in your life, but what I am trying to say is that this place is not remembering a certain memory, but you are creating your own happy place out of imagination and live that moment leaving your body.. I don’t know if I was successful in conveying what I want to say.. :/
Erzulie, definitely Trance is the best when working out, I am sure there is a scientific reason for the boost of energy that it gives.. when I dance to trance, I stay at my enigma for hours at a time not feeling what’s around me.. and believe me I ain’t no pill popper.. lol
Mia, yes yes yes.. every single minute of my day has to have its certain music selection, every mood has its own music list.. I totally agree with you..
Did I read this right? You’re a Harley rider ?? how come you never mentioned that before?? I don’t think there is something more sexy than a girl who rides a Harley.. :)
Nooni, you listen to the exact same song ?? hehehehe..
E3youn, you totally understand what I am saying.. :)
perfect, I like this post :)
I have to agree with Mia...System of a Down is incredible!
Sarah, hehehe I know.. :P
Janjoona, I never listened to it :(
but I will
oh yes to the exact song :)
this is one of the songs that i can't live without :S
A Harley rider? Man I practically live on my fatboy! I first started out on a Softail Deuce. Right now I am looking at a 2006 Dyna, or a Road King since I plan on driving cross country next summer. The feeling of being on my bike is the best! Haven’t met the guy yet that could top it..lol
janjoon I don't know if you've ever seen System of A Down live but if you haven't it's a must! The CD's don't do them justice they get better as the year go by!
Oh yea Don I never mentioned the fact I ride b/c it never came up! This post was the perfect opportunity to bring it up since my Ipod and my fatboy go hand in hand with each other... If you're ever in NY be on the look out for the little chick sporting the black helmet with the pink fairy painted on the side...lol
Wow that's very interesting! Especially that I just wrote a post about music a couple of days ago saying almost the same thing.
I second you, music can express what we feel. We just have to dive in, and it will take us to another world, to somewhere we belong .. :)
Cheering for you the Don.
Isin't Enigma mystery? Anyways whatever it is, I know what you mean, it is that adrenaline rush that you get! Depending on how you relate to music, it affects you in multiple conditions. It affects me when I drive, and usually speed, cook or more intimate situations. I guess it has the same on all.
great Post Don...I'm soooo in love With that song:)...and i agree with Janjoon (music is amazing);)
Nooni, me too.. :)
Mia, I am soo excited.. this is awesome to have yet another biker chick in here..
Enigma, hehehhe I liked what you wrote.. and agree with it.. oh.. welcome to my blog btw..
Equalizer, it’s more than adrenalin pumping in the body, it’s more like an out of body experience for me..
