Nostalgia

A mere thought pass by my mind after seeing an old picture in my album when we went to Daytona on spring break, and all of a sudden I elevate out of my body and go back in time.. I close my eyes, and things start poring out of my memory.. things that I miss more than anything.. it's the little things that makes the difference, things that people who never lived abroad would never understand..

- Going to 7-eleven for a jumbo hotdog at 4 am..

- Settling all your bills by mail

- Walking around Albertson's to waste time before a class..

- Wal-Mart at the crack of dawn in sweat pants and huge Mickey mouse flip-flops, and end up buying $500 worth of $h!t you don't want..

- IHOP and Denny's after a wild night out

- Giving in to infomercials, and buying that machine that promises your butt will look good in 2 minutes a day.. hahahha

- Pulling all nighters just because

- The big bread bowl salads at Perkins

- Roller coasters, cotton candy and popcorn

- Baby back ribs

- Going to the movies and not worrying who's sitting next to you and being able to watch the whole movie without people chatting..

- The dollar store and for some reason you'd get things you have no clue what they're used for but they are for a dollar so what the heck.. lol..

- Those little smiles from strangers passing by you..

- AT&T , MCI , and Sprint

- Cars stopping at walk ways to let people cross the streets.. and people actually signaling to turn..

- Paper or plastic?

- Driving down to the next city or state just for a day and back..

- Making the decision to drive to that state at the spur of that moment, cos you have your clothes in your car anyway

- RED LOBSTER

- Tony Romas

I should stop now.. cos I think I am about to break down.. hehehe..

lol i went to the movies here for the first time last week,....

what the hell !!! apparently everyone watching the film was in a fashion show, and obviously VIP's cos they were all on their phone, musta been something damn important :P

but yeah great list, and for anyone who's live in the UK:

trekking down to the spar for chocolates at 4am.

watching teletubbies on the weekends after getting in from a heavy night out.

waking up to countdown on telly :P

an english breakfast, classic fryup on sunday morning, umm afternoonish.

little old ladies in cornershops keeping you for 30 mins as they tell you about their grandkids, when all you wanted was a pack of gum.

their god awful version of a shawarma, which they call a kebab, when its really neither,...but you just gotta have one once in a while :P

the tube, hate that place, but still you gotta love it :P

Why?! WHY would you do this to me? WHY!!

OK, shopa look at the bright side! I am moving back to the US in few weeks, FEW WEEKS! AHHHH

Blogger Shopaholic Q8eya said ... (7/25/2006 11:53 AM) :

Adding few things,

Walking to 7-eleven when it's very cold and raining just to get a slurpee to drink with hotdog

Grocery shopping in ur PJs aruond 4 or 5 am Sunday morning

Checking in a hotel pass midnight in a near by city just because you're too tired to drive the 2 hours back home

Sleeping at the semi-round table at Denny's when stopping for food during a long road trip

Damn paaps, how can I out do that?? :(

Hehehehe skunk.. good list, but you know, it doesn’t matter where you lived, the experience would be the same most likey.. so if you lived abroad, you would know how it would feel to do all these things, even if the names and the places are different..

Shoppee.. NOOO.. it’s not fair.. I forbid you to feel nostalgic in my post, cos you will have those feelings in few weeks.. so I won’t let you be nostalgic.. :P

Btw, people can add on to that list over here if they like to.. ;)

hahahahah one of my long comments again! BARE YOURSELF :P

- Going to 7-eleven for a jumbo hotdog at 4 am (specially when you have the munchies) LOL
- Settling all your bills by mail (that’s the good old days…everything is done online now!)
- Walking around Albertson's to waste time before a class (too expensive…I go to Food City much cheaper and you get fresh fruits that actually taste like fruits!)
- Wal-Mart at the crack of dawn in sweat pants and huge Mickey mouse flip-flops, and end up buying $500 worth of $h!t you don't want.. (I usually go in my PJs and I never spend more than 100 dollars! 500 dollars 3ala shino? :P)
- IHOP and Denny's after a wild night out (IHOP=international house of prostitutes LOL…Denny’s is usually where I pull all nighters before a final…man I hate the taste of their coffee but good times!) LOL
- Giving in to infomercials, and buying that machine that promises your butt will look good in 2 minutes a day.. hahahha (I’m a sucker for those infomercials!)
- Pulling all nighters just because (I’m doing it right now!)
- The big bread bowl salads at Perkins (ooh Perkins! I miss that place…I haven’t really seen one in Arizona…but I remember it more when I was in the east coast)
- Roller coasters, cotton candy and popcorn (yabeela six-flags!)
- Baby back ribs (you reminded me of Chili’s commercial…I want my baby back baby back :P)
- Going to the movies and not worrying who's sitting next to you and being able to watch the whole movie without people chatting.. (believe it or not people do it here a lot too…I usually try to catch some of the popular movies during the week instead of the weekend!)
- The dollar store and for some reason you'd get things you have no clue what they're used for but they are for a dollar so what the heck.. lol.. (ooh I LOVE the dollar store…half of the staff in my kitchen are from the dollar store!)
- Those little smiles from strangers passing by you.. (I know I will miss that for sure!)
- AT&T , MCI , and Sprint (LOL you reminded me of a little game I used to play with AT&T and MCI…MCI would send me a check for 50 dollars to switch carrier and I will cash it in and then AT&T will send me another check and I will cash it and so on…until they caught up with me!! LOL)
- Cars stopping at walk ways to let people cross the streets.. and people actually signaling to turn.. (I never stop :P)
- Paper or plastic? (Plastic Please :P)
- Driving down to the next city or state just for a day and back.. (yeah I remember doing that a lot when the gas prices were cheaper!)
- Making the decision to drive to that state at the spur of that moment, cos you have your clothes in your car anyway (I did that a lot in the old days! I’m afraid I lost that spur of the moment feeling!)
- RED LOBSTER (LOL I remember when I used to live in Pennsylvania…we used to drive for 45 minutes from State College to Altoona just to go eat in Red Lobster and Olive Garden!)
- Tony Romas (I never heard of that place before…it must be only in Florida!)

I guess I take these things for granted? Except I'm a little too old for breakfast at 3 am like we used to do. Now I'm asleep usually at that time. :( I don't know Tony Romas either must be a more southern thing?

Blogger The Stallion said ... (7/26/2006 7:46 AM) :

1) Ahhhh 7-11! Fun times in DC!

2) Not all my bills were paid through the mail I actually went to the Electric company and paid in person!

3) Didn't do the walk thing! I went to class 30 minutes before and then went home if I didn't have another class that day! If I did then I would either be in the computer lab or outside walking on campus!

4) Ahhhh WAL MART! Now that I dearly miss! Well that and COSTCO!

5) What about the Waffle House? You didn't have that where you were? :oP

6) I fell for a few infomercials

7) All nighters were due to having fun but never an exam!

8) Mr. J's Bagels or Brooklyn's Deli before it closed down! Another place that I frequently called and had them deliver was the Chinease Restaurant down the road!

9) Theme parks ... such a treat whenever I went! I can taste the BBQ turkey leg! YUMM!

10) Watching a movie without it being censored!

11) Ahhh the $ store and all it's names!

12) Smiles are great! They lift you up during the day!

13) Can you hear me now by verizon!

14) Road etiquette! A guy pulled me over yesterday and tried to schold me for driving with my lights on during the day! You should have seen his face when I talked to him in Arabic! I was wearing a suit so he thought I was a foreigner but when I talked to him and he found out I was Kuwaiti he shrunk and apologised!

15) Paper and Plastic! Both came in handy!

16) ROAD TRIPS are amazing!

17) MMM Red Lobster!

I can go on and on but I will stop too! Tears are rolling down thinking of all the good times!

Take care.

Blogger ***Diamon*** said ... (7/26/2006 8:08 PM) :

I pay all my bills online now... even sweeter huh? well except my water bill.

-Wal-Mart is cool but they should do something about the long line even that early in the morning...

Ahh, Perkins, I remember when I took my aunt there she asked me if she should eat the bowl too. I told her of course its bread. LOL

sometimes I am guilty of laughing when everybody stops.. I used to do it just piss off my brother, now it's kind of a habit that I am working on loosing :)

Don-

Good to see you back :)

I know your post was about nostalgia for your college days, but This is what I miss about Florida:

-Pollo Tropical ( yes, I love Cuban food - even fast food Cuban food LOL!)

- Miami Subs and Grill (yes, really!)

- Joe's Stone Crabs and real key lime pie.

-The gorgeous, wonderful, exquisite Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, and the amazing food eaten by their beautiful pool while a lovely lady sang opera arias by candlelight.

-Coconut Grove.

-Watching sunrises on a little beach on Key Biscayne, after gazing at the city lights of Miami all night and then going for an iHop breakfast.

- Key West, one of the most beautiful and dreamy places in the world.

-The guy at the Winn Dixie not understanding when I said " where's the milk" until I said : "Leche, por favor".

-The way the sky gets pink at sunset, with the beautiful fluffy, water filled humid Florida clouds draping it...

-The cheesey, 1 gazillion calorie butter filled warm biscuits they serve you at Red Lobster before your food comes - OMG!!!

-Freshly made CAJETA (milk caramel) OMG AGAIN!

(I know, I know, these points are mostly food related, LOL!)

Many other things, but this is enough :)

Nooni, it seems cool.. :)

Aldara, !!! :)

Chris, so far Tony Romas is the best place for ribs..

The Stallion, long time.. :)

I almost felt you sigh.. lol

Mia, I got a flash back from the Godfather part one where sunny was beating up his inlaw.. I have a big grin on my face

Condesa, I would give an arm and a leg to be with you right now.. :(

Diamond, in my time, the closest I got to paying my bills automatically was through the phone.. pressing numbers and sending them.. which was so cool at that time, when there was First Union..

About your last comment, I am so glad that you explained it, cos without mentioning the movies, I totally thought your are a wacko.. lol

Ayya, no rubbing in please.. I’m drinking karkaday.. hehehe close enough..

Ms. B.. I wanted to cry after reading your list.. and don’t worry, my list had lots of food places as well.. ;)

Don Veto, I am always glad to be in help.. :)

Mosan, it was all because of a picture.. and I am in it as well ;) but not the guy carried by the girl (touch wood, she is so strong lol )
